The Borley Rectory

The Borley Rectory has often been called "The most haunted house in England". Located near Suffolk by the Essex border, but unless you are familiar with the area you`ll never find it. The church & about 20 houses are all that exist in Borley, & the local town councils have removed all the signs to the village & made it impossible to park a car in the community.

The Borley Rectory was originally a monastery inhabited by Benedictine monks. The premises was then bought by the Waldergrave family who occupied it for 3 centuries. A descendant of the Waldergraves, Reverend Harry Bull built a new rectory on the site of the old monastery in the late 1800`s, it was about that time that strange things began to happen.

In the 13th century a nun fell in love with a monk & when they tried to
elope, they were caught. As punishment the monk was hanged, & the nun was walled up alive inside the rectory. Many people have reported seeing the nun roaming the premises over the years.

Reverend Harry Bull who died at the rectory is also said to haunt the premises. Reverend Lionel Foyster purchased the premises in the late 1920`s & his wife reported many poltergeist activities. She claims that an entity once locked her in the bedroom, & on a few occasions threw her out of bed. Mysterious writing would also appear on the walls.

Famous ghost hunter Harry Price investigated the borley in 1929 & again in 1937. He witnessed the ghostly nun while spending a great deal of time there, but many say he was biased, creating flaws in his research.
The rectory burned down in 1939 & human remains were discovered there in 1945. According to rumors they are the remains of the nun & were given a proper burial. According to legend the ghostly activities still occur today even though the remains of the rectory were bulldozed shortly after the fire. Only the church remains, but the premises where the rectory stood are right across the street. Below is a photo of a brick floating in the air taken by a newspaper reporter after the fire.

UPDATE!

We reported that the wife of Lionel Foyster reported many paranormal incidents at the rectory. After doing more research on December 8, 2006, we learned that Mrs. Foyster found an envelope with her name on it. Her name was Marianne & she believes this was actually written by the entity. The entity wrote her name, when Mrs. Foyster found it, she wrote "What do you want?". The next day, below her question was the word "Rest", believed to be written by the entity. We obtained a copy of it & here it is below.
