Haunted Bakery In Chicago

Hello, This is the first time I am writing to anything like this, but I must say your website is probably one of the best that I have seen so far. I would like to start off by saying that I personally don't think of myself as psychic or a cliche' nut, but I for some reason or another, seem to see things or feel things. My sister once swore I was, but she IS a nut!

Anyway, I worked in a bakery on the south side of Chicago as an assistant cake decorator for 7 years. This was my first job while I was still in high school. The building the bakery was located in was very old (about 100 years old). Right from the get go, I began "feeling" things. Soon enough, I would see weird things. I am not a skeptic but I do believe in ghosts.

I like to find the reasons for what goes bump in the night. One incident in particular caught me completely off guard. The bakery was split up into two cramp narrow sections of the first floor of the building. The owners of the building and bakery decided to open up a wall to enlarge the bakery, but only one door led to the decorating room. I HATED being in there alone because I often felt someone standing behind me or watching me while I was in there. One day while I was working alone in that area, I was returning to the room after finishing up and delivering to the store clerk in front (the only other person there) The last cake, but I recall the strangest feeling like someone wanted me to notice them, but for obvious reasons I tried my darndest to ignore it. As I walked back into the room from handing the last cake off, I thought I would clean up all the tools and leave the decorating room sparkling, but then I noticed a very dark or black figure under the large, long window display of one of the large windows that showcased our fake cakes.

It looked like it was sticking out of the floor, because all I saw was the head and shoulders of this figure. There was no proper lighting that could reflect under there, so it was already dark under the display table. However, that thing was very noticeable because of the shape and color. Let me explain: The table stood about chest or shoulder high to me and I am about 5 feet tall (very short) It was the remnants of the design of a fast food restaureant for people who wanted to sit on stools at the window and eat their food years ago before the fire destroyed that part. But now we used it as the display window. Anyway, at first I could not believe what I was seeing, thinking it was some sort of optical illusion or a trick of lighting. I blinked my eyes several times to make absolutely sure it wasn't my eyes just playing tricks on me. Nope! It was a figure of some sort.

I was in disbelief but at the same time flattered that the thing chose to make an appearance to me, however, I needed to get the heck out of there! I recall that I did not ever get the feeling of fear or terror, just curiosity and awe. Well, instead of ignoring it again and cleaning up the room, in one swoop, I grabbed my jacket, scarf, purse, bookbag, headphones, and bolted out of the room barely switching off the radio and leaving the room in a wreck. I almost knocked over my other co-worker just trying to get out of there. But as I tried to explain to her in jumbled excited words, she and the customer she was taking care of just looked at me like I was on drugs. To this day NO ONE believes what I saw that day. They think it was the imagination of a naive teenager. But I know I was not imagining it. Sorry for the rambling. Hope you enjoyed my moment of unexplained terror.
